Fukushima Prefectural Gokoku Shrine Spring Annual Festival


@Gokoku Shrine is on the mountain side of Mt. Shinobu. According to the history of the Shrine, the Shrine was founded as "Shokonsha." "Shokon" means to enshrine the spirit of the dead. Those of Soma, Miharu and Wakamatsu were combined into Gokoku Shrine in 1879. The present Shrine, founded in 1937, has been worshipped 69000 souls from "Boshin-no-Eki" to W.W.II.

@The shrine is built at the ridge of Mt. Shinobu and the main shrine is at the end of the approach. It is situated in a quite place. It is abundant in natures.

There're Kuronuma Shrine and Gonbo Inari next to the Shrine. Gonbo Inari is a shrine dedicated to a harbest god. Shinobu Cemetery is also on the opposite side of the street. In the seasons of "Obon"(the Buddhist All Souls' Day) or "Ohigan", smoke from incense sticks hangs at the ridge of the mountain.

The shrine's annual festivals are held on April 23 and September 23 with memorial service.

"Mitama(souls) Festival" is held on August 15 to 18. People pray for peace in the world.
